Are to you a Beginner to Martial Arts? You are welcome to come and train with us. We specialise in helping newcomers to Martial Arts develop to become Black Belts. Are you already experienced in Martial Arts. That’s great, come and try the Shin Gi Tai difference and we’ll help you to grow more. 

A Path for everybody and every-age.


One of the most common questions we hear is, “Am I too old, too unfit, or too inexperienced to start?” The answer is a resounding no.

Our beginner’s programmes in Winchester are designed to be accessible to everyone from the age of 15. We focus on teaching foundational principles that can be adapted to your unique body mechanics and fitness level. The goal is not to force you into a rigid mould, but to empower you to discover your body’s potential. You will learn not just the ‘how’ but the ‘why’ behind each technique, building a deep and lasting understanding of the art that will serve you for a lifetime.

 

Before joining us, we are often asked by potential new members “Can I learn a Martial Art.” Yes you can.

Our adult’s beginners Martial Arts classes in Basingstoke are suitable for anyone from the age of 15 years old. The classes teach a wide range of different skills which the participants are able to pragmatically apply to suit their own body rather than having to force their body to do something it’s not physically able to do. Whilst practicing effective and practical Martial Arts skills, we also learn their associated underlying principles and theory. This helps our long-term development as a Martial Artist in order to learn some of the more advanced skills.

Cultivating Awareness and Real World safety.


We don’t just teach you the physical skills to defend yourself, we also teach you the soft skills necessary for self-protection including how to spot potential danger, having a hunter’s mindset rather than a victims mindeset, using what’s available to you and weapons safety. Plus common-sense strategies to keep safe along with an understanding of how your voice and attitude both affect your safety. 

We also provide regular specialist ladies only self-defence courses using both male and female coaches. These provide focused, clear and concise principles for women to follow to help them to stay safe.  ‘Prevention is far better than cure’ is certainly true in for self defence. Although safety in our area is generally good, self protection in Hampshire is still important, these courses help you to learn the soft skills necessary to look after yourself. Self protection often overlooks emotional and mental self defence whereby we actively consider our own personal health and what we can do to foster it and guard it. Mindfulness is a key part of how we train this and develop our own bodies, knowledge and mind.

What Martial Arts can we teach you?


Within our School of Martial Arts, oiur coaches are qualified as coaches to Sport England’s exacting standards. Technically our skillset includes KarateKung Fu, Muay Thai, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Aikido, Judo and Tai Chi We have a dedicated Ladies only Kickboxing class (Chinese Kickboxing or Kung Fu.)

 Our coaches are highly experienced in these Martial Arts and have been teaching in Winchester and nationally / Internationally for over 30 years now.  Technical Martial Arts skills are necessary for coaches to help you get the best from your Martial Arts classes, our coaches have all been where you are and remember what it’s like. However, all coaches have to be highly qualified as teachers of the Martial Arts not just good Martial Artists. This means that they understand how to help you get the best from your training.

What are the differences between each Martial Art? Which should I learn?

Adults Martial Arts classes

Our Adults Karate/Kung Fu classes, based at our full time Martial Arts club in Winchester, are open to complete beginners looking to get to grips with the fundamentals of standing Martial Arts — whether that’s Kickboxing, Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai or Kung Fu — as well as those with existing experience who want to sharpen their skills and broaden their knowledge.
We cover the traditional techniques at the heart of disciplines like Karate and Kung Fu, including sweeps, throws and close quarter self defence, alongside the striking, kicking and blocking skills most people associate with these arts. With a background in Chinese Kickboxing and Judo, our coaches will also teach you to fall safely and to practice throws.
Classes draw on a range of stances, blocks, kicks and strikes, practised on focus pads and bags as well as through partner drills for self defence application. We also dedicate time to Kata in Karate and Forms in Kung Fu — structured sequences of movement that build understanding of core principles and techniques.
